About This Print

This tulip was one of the first flowers Paul photographed in his studio and was the inspiration for much of the floral work that followed. A handful of tulip bulbs had been planted in a terracota pot and given to him as an Easter gift. They sat outside his kitchen door for a while where they grew and bloomed, waiting patiently for their moment in the spotlight. Paul selected one tulip and worked for several hours in his studio, trying out a variety of different lighting techniques which would set the tone for the whole black and white floral series, Petalum.

Pink Tulip, Study IV went on to win him several international awards and it was also selected for the Summer Exhibition at the Royal Academy in London, where the framed print was sold to a collector in Singapore.
